Convert JSON to PNG in the browser
A decent JSON still beats another cropped screenshot. Paste a payload, style the window, and download a PNG with sharp text edges — useful in pull-request comments, Notion docs, and slide decks where blurry OS captures look sloppy. The export stays on this device; Formatly never receives the file.
What you get in the PNG
- A padded code window with traffic lights, a filename bar, and syntax colors
- Lossless output that keeps thin strokes on keys, braces, and line numbers readable
- Optional transparent outer pad when you want the snippet to sit cleanly on a light or dark page
- Controls for theme, background gradient, padding, aspect ratio, and line numbers
How to turn JSON into a PNG
- Paste JSON or drop a .json file into the editor. Invalid JSON still draws — the picture shows what you typed.
- Tune the look: background, theme, pad, and aspect. PNG keeps alpha, so soft pads work well on docs with colored backgrounds.
- Hit Download PNG. Capture runs on a canvas in this tab; open DevTools → Network if you want to confirm nothing uploads.
What this is not
This draws text as an image. It does not attach Google Photos Takeout sidecar metadata to real camera JPGs, extract base64 image fields from a payload, or render poster layouts from a JSON design API. Those are different jobs. If you only need readable JSON, use the JSON Formatter instead.
Proof it stays local
Open DevTools → Network, paste a sample, download PNG. You should not see the payload posted to Formatly. Rendering and encode happen in the browser canvas — the same path as the live preview above.
FAQ
- When should I export PNG instead of JPG?
- Choose PNG when you care about crisp glyphs or a transparent pad. JPG is better when a host rejects PNG or you need a smaller opaque file for email and CMS uploads.
- Can the PNG have a transparent background?
- Yes. The outer canvas can keep alpha around the code window. If you need a solid color behind the snippet, pick an opaque pad in the background picker.
- Does the tool validate my JSON?
- No. Validation is optional here. Broken or partial JSON still exports, because the goal is a shareable still, not a schema check.
- How long can the snippet be?
- Short payloads look best. Export soft-caps around a hundred lines so the image stays usable on a slide or in chat; trim before download if you need the full document.
