Why compress PNG?

PNG screenshots and graphics can balloon in size. A percent-based compressor lets you aim at a target file size — using optimization and, when needed, a smaller resolution — without uploading the file.

What changes in the file

  • Output stays PNG
  • Lossless optimize first; dimensions may shrink if the budget is still too tight
  • EXIF and other metadata are not preserved through the WASM encode path
  • If quality alone cannot hit the budget, the image is scaled down and re-encoded

How to compress PNG

  1. Open the PNG compressor and drop one or more images (any supported source format).
  2. Choose a compression percent (or a preset). The tool computes target size as original × (1 − percent/100).
  3. Start compression. Encoding runs locally with WASM codecs and downloads as PNG.

About PNG

PNG is a lossless raster format with optional transparency. Pixels are preserved exactly, so it is the usual choice for screenshots, UI, logos, and any image that needs a clean alpha channel.

FAQ

Does this PNG compressor upload my files?
No. Detection, decode, and WASM encode all run in your browser. Formatly never receives the image bytes for compression.
What does the compression percent mean?
It is a size budget, not a vague quality label. 90% compression on a 50 MB file targets about 5 MB (keep 10% of the original size). The encoder searches quality and, if needed, scale to approach that budget.
Can I compress other formats into PNG?
Yes. Drop JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, and other supported sources; the page exports PNG. On this page the output format is fixed to PNG.
